Youngsters at Hockwold Primary School had time off last week to work on the school playing fields. The occasion was the planting of three large horse chestnut trees donated to the school by the parish council. They were given not only to mark the school’s diamond jubilee last year, but also as part of the council’s recognition of National Tree Week.

With the help of councillors and the clerk, Mr. Ernest Clingo, who was a pupil at the school when it moved to its current site many years ago, ten youngsters representing each class planted the trees. Pictured here are the ten: Jane Barrett, Jamie Millbank, Sara Dyke, John Morter, Jane Denney, Mark O'Malley, Gail Binfield, Jason Dyke, Caroline Mills and Stephen Dillley.
