What a terrific website!!! We lived in Hockwold at "Chalk Hall Farm" down at the end of Mill Lane from Summer 1986 until 1989 and fell in love with the fens and Norfolk. Our daughter was born in Lakenheath and we try to go back and visit our friends every chance we get. Your website made us feel like we were home again!! John and Audrey Custer, Tampa, Florida.

Your site brought back fond memories of me as a 10-11 year old yank-tyke exploring your fields and church yard with my sword (tree limb)and steed (bicycle). I used to play soccer, excuse me, football with the guys next door. I wish I could remember their names and my old address. Thank you for a great website. You have made my morning.

I was born at 10 Pearces Close - went to school in Hockwold later Thetford, stole apples once or twice (sorry), kissed the first time there, got drunk the first time at the New Inn, loved to go fishing and left almost 30 years ago to work in Germany! My parents are still there (Station Road) and I try to visit them every year. I just entered Hockwold at Google to see if anyone had put it on the “www map“ and was really impressed by what I found! If anyone remembers me just drop me a line and if you know my mum & dad just say hello from me please!

Hi there. Proud to say ancestors of mine were Hockwold born and bred before setting off on an adventure in 1856 to make new lives in Australia. I wouldn't have been born if they hadn't, the laws of cause and effect being what they are. Cheers to Hockwold-cum-Wilton, Owen Smith.

Respect due ! A website about Hockwold... I surely have now seen it all... I used to live in Hockwold from when I was a kid (1974) to when I was about 17 (now 27). Good to see the old sepia pics. Keep up the good work. Hockwold still brings back childhood memories when I come and visit my parents. I still recognise the odd face and it seems as though there are quite a few peeps of the same age who are still 'loyal' to good old Hockwold !

My great-great-great grandfather and grandmother, James Cooper and his wife, lived in Hockwold (next-door-but-one to the Red Lion, I think, according to the 1851 and 1861 censuses). I have never had the opportunity to visit and am delighted to find so much out about the village from your website, including pictures of cottages that I guess my great-great-great-grandparents saw out of their windows every day! Thanks.

I lived in Hockwold 1980-1982 when my ex-husband was stationed at Lakenheath. The pictures on your website were like a trip back through time. I lived in the cottage called 'Wilton Piece' right across the street from The Red Lion, and right next to St.James church. What a lovely place to call home for a time. My ex was really in to gardening and the garden inside that stone wall was a site to behold. I have many fond memories of that beautiful little village, and I was surprised and very pleased to find such a wonderful website. I would love to see more pictures or to hear from you. Cheers! Judy

I have walked the fields of Hockwold and crossed the Little Ouse by tree. At the Red Lion darts dominated dominos, and ale flowed with shandies sipped, and humor over all. And still see the flowers of the village then, and gamebirds everwhichway. I remember Oscar who chipped and putted. Perhaps the current keeper of the Red Lion might email me with Oscars story. I have always wondered about him, the facts, who he was, when he was born and died, any golf anecdotes. While chipping and putting on the links at Seven Springs I thought of him. Hockwold's website is an excellent efficiency, a real piece of work, and I appreciate being able to sit down in my home and seek answers to old questions such as these. Sincerely, J. Davis III
